Type Locality and Naming

The type section, Jiaoyanshan-Yaoshan section, is located at the Shanglin Township, Linqu County. Geographical coordinates: 36°32′N, 118°43′E (GPS). It was named by the Geological Department Phosphate Team, Shandong, in 1960, and introduced in 1966 by the Petroleum Geology Atlas Editorial Committee, the Ministry of Geology.


Lithology and Thickness

Primarily a set of basic volcanic rocks, sometimes intercalated with glutenite. In Linqu area it is composed of olivine basalt and diabase, and in Qixia and Penglai areas it is composed of olivine basalt.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in unconformity contact with the eruption of the Shanwang Fm, or the Niushan Fm, if Shanwang is absent.

Upper contact

It is unconformably overlain by the Quaternary.

Regional extent

It is distributed in Linqu, Qixia, Penglai, Weifang and the adjacent area.
